"i paint flowers so they will not die" frida kahlo.

The incredible force that is the art of Frida Kahlo ..where to begin. Frida embodied all that is enigmatic about flowers.. the bouganvillia and dahlias adorning her head.. the garden filled with succulents, fruit trees, jacaranda, marigolds and fuchsias surrounding her home .. the vivid depiction of the same in her arresting autobiographical self portraits.

The influence of colour and style from her Mexican heritage transitioned into a contemporary form that she owned as a unique style icon. From her signature headpiece of crowning flowers to her use of them in her paintings as a celebration of national heritage, the symbolism of fertility was particularly pertinent to the theme of a number of her works. . Hers was not an easy life , contracting polio at the age of 6 and being badly injured in a bus accident at the age of 18 resulting in over 30 correctional operations and infertility resulting in several miscarriages and a life spent largely in isolation. "I paint self portraits because i am so often alone, because i am the person I know best". It was during the recovery period that Frida began to paint and her resulting works blend the pain and turmoil with breathtaking art.

The gardens at La Casa Azul (The Blue House) were created as an artwork in their own right with the same enigmatic zeal as her artwork and stand as a testament to her botanical prowess.
